The Women’s Leadership Initiative at Furman offers a unique opportunity for individuals to further develop their leadership skills, broaden their awareness of emerging issues, and expand their professional network.

Program Overview:

Module 1: Self-Awareness for Leaders

This module will help you better understand your unique strengths, the core values that drive you, and the challenges that you may encounter on your leadership journey. 

Module 2: Communication for Leaders

Communication is an essential skill for all leaders. In this module, you will develop skills for conveying your vision and strategy to those around you. Learn storytelling techniques for both in-person and digital communication, while developing your unique leadership story.

Module 3: Leading Teams

Leading successful teams is one of the greatest challenges for all leaders. This module will build your tool kit for having crucial conversations that can unlock greatness in those you lead. Develop your awareness of the formal and informal power structures to deliver important wins for your team. Learn the impact that mentorship and sponsorship can have on the development and retention of high performers.

Module 4: Innovative Leadership

Innovation is a mantra of the modern business world. This module will teach you the skills and mindset of an entrepreneur to drive a culture of innovation at your organization. You will learn design thinking strategies, better understand organizational behavior, and develop skills to be a more adaptive leader.

Equip people at all levels of the organization to master the fundamentals of leadership.

Lead 4 Success® moves leaders from average to high-performing by developing the 4 fundamental leadership skills — self-awareness, learning agility, influence, and communication — that leaders at any level need to master for success.

The importance of developing fundamental leadership skills cannot be understated. No matter their intelligence, experience, or drive, leaders at every level need the same 4 core skills to be effective and grow within an organization. 

• Self-awareness: Understand your behavior’s impact on organizational outcomes
• Communication: Effectively communicate goals and inspire trust
• Influence: Be comfortable persuading, promoting, and delegating
• Learning agility: Know when to change course, and help others to do so

The Fundamental 4 have endured the test of time, and are the basis for our Lead 4 Success® program, where participants immerse themselves in development, adapt these skills to their own leadership contexts, participate with peers in learning, and share ideas to apply to their leadership lessons to their real world. 

Length: 6 months, alternating in-person and online sessions

Dr. Rebecca Heiss, whose own mission is to help others become fearless, has partnered with the Center for Innovative Leadership at Furman University to offer this exclusive six-month course.

Our main goal? Allow you to delve deep, commit to a long-term transformation, and fully embrace your fear(less) journey to regain your sense of self.

What could you do if you were fearless? With Dr. Heiss and her research-backed methods, you will evaluate how to reinvigorate your life, control negative voices (both internal and external), and cultivate your own daily joy! There are six chapters that will be explored, each aimed at a specific area where troubles may be sourced within your life, and learn how to take control and channel anxiety, fear, and hesitation into a positive force.
